Suckhead idea of the day…

Close the academies.   Huh.

Look, I was just a grease under the nails armor NCO. To me, most 2LT were worthless. The best thing you could do is stick them to the heels of a good Platoon Sgt. and hope they do not hurt themselves. That being said, once they learned which end of the tank the boom came out of, the academy grads did show a lot of potential. Sure, some were insufferable asses, but they did have a good base military education to buid on. That being said, the ROTC guys had a bit more “street smarts” than the academy and OCS grads. Bit more down to earth as well.

I have to give it to the West Point guys. You had a good working knowledge of the military, understood the history, and had a excellent support network to draw on. It is no coincidence many of our senior commanders came from the Point. Again, my point of view is from an NCO who instructed them at the Ft. Knox Armor school. But trust me, we could tell the weaknesses and strengths of both the academy and ROTC system. They create a wide range of officers to draw from. So you can try and place the best commander in the right slot.

Leave the system alone Mr. Ricks. It works well for a reason. It is hard to be a “Ivy League” as you put it when you are up to your waist in mud with a thrown track. We have our own ways of leveling the field. Social engineer somewhere else.

More on this from the fine troopers at Blackfive.
